How it All Began...
Placing my baby up for adoption wasn't a black and white decision. At first, I had so so so many doubts and concerns about it, but I knew I wasn't ready for the responsibility and I wasn't ready to be tied down to anything. I knew that the little guy deserved stability and a couple that could be that selfless.
How did Angel Adoption help you choose adoption?
Angel answered all my questions truthfully. They outlined all of the different options I had with adoption and they gave me resources to do my own research, too!
What were your concerns going into the adoption process?
My main concern was the family I would choose. I was so nervous about who would be the eventual parents of my baby.
What helped ease your concerns while going through the adoption process?
Talking to the couple I had chosen weekly and meeting them was the most helpful. After getting to know them I was 100% sure of my decision to place.
How did Angel Adoption help you through the adoption process?
Angel helped me by checking in but not bothering me! They knew I had my own life and that I would get back to them when I could. It was super nice to not have to be in constant communication or anything.
What were you looking for in an adoptive family, and what made you choose the family you did?
I had scrolled and scrolled through so many profiles, but I just kept going back to theirs. They seemed so fun and "non-rehearsed" I guess. The pictures they had were of them naturally, not like photo shoot pictures, which I loved. I could really see my baby growing up in their lifestyle.
How did your baby's adoptive family help you through the adoption process?
They are awesome! They answer my questions and they are so open. We had weekly phone calls and they even flew out to meet me, which helped immensely. I don't think I would've been comfortable if I hadn't met them beforehand.
What type of adoption did you choose, and why?
At first I had chosen closed, but after getting to know the couple, I switched to open. I can't imagine not getting Skype calls or photos of the little guy from them.
Describe your thoughts and emotions before and after the baby's birth.
Well, honestly, after meeting the couple, I didn't even think of the little guy as just mine anymore. He was just as much theirs. And having them be present for the labor and birth process was the best experience of my life — I wouldn't change it for anything. Seeing the love they had for him already was so rewarding. I’m not going to lie, sometimes it is hard, but then I just text them and get a picture of the little guy and it's okay again. I know he's loved and taken care of.
What are you looking forward to now that the adoption process is completed?
I'm looking forward to seeing the little guy grow up! He's already getting so big. I'm hoping to get to visit sometime next year.
What advice would you give to other pregnant women who are considering adoption?
Do your own research! Go with your gut! Ask questions! Don't be afraid to say what you feel. You don't have to go with the first couple you chose — if something about them feels weird to you, don't be afraid to say so! There are so many families out there, make sure you're comfortable with who you choose.
