How to Adopt a Newborn Baby

Newborn baby
Every day, Angel Adoption receives questions from hopeful adoptive parents about the adoption process. The most frequently asked question, and possibly the most important, is… how do we adopt? Now, this is a huge question that requires extensive detail to be answered in full, but we wanted to provide adoptive parents with a few basic steps. By following these steps and working with Angel Adoptions’ team of professionals, you will be on your way to adopting a newborn.

Learn About Adoption

There are many factors that go into adopting a newborn baby. Learning about adoption and all of your options is imperative to making the best choices throughout the adoption process. How long does it take? How much does it cost? What are the types of adoption and how do you choose? What is an adoption home study? Learning about adoption and getting your biggest questions answered are the first steps towards a successful adoption.

Complete Our Free Adoption Application

Angel Adoption makes it easy for adoptive parents to get started on the adoption process with our free online application. Once you have made your final decision to adopt a newborn and have learned about the adoption process, the next step is to dive in. Once your application is reviewed, an adoption coordinator will be in touch to discuss an adoption plan in further detail.

Choose Your Adoption Type

Do you want an open adoption or a closed adoption? An even bigger question – do you understand the difference? In a nutshell, a closed adoption is a process that is carried out with 100% anonymity. No identifying information is shared between the birthmother and adoptive parents, and there is no ongoing contact after the adoption has been finalized. An open adoption is just what the title suggests: open. Identifying information such as names, email addresses and phone numbers are exchanged, and you may even want to schedule in person visits. The level of openness varies from case to case, but typically includes ongoing contact between both parties after placement.

Create an Adoptive Family Profile

This is the fun part. As part of our contracted marketing efforts, Angel Adoption creates every adoptive family their own adoptive parent profile. This profile is your chance to show your passion for adopting a newborn through pictures and storytelling. It is also how you will make your first impression to birthmothers – so make it count! Once your profile is complete, it is published on our website for birthmothers to view.

Complete the Adoption Home Study

An adoption home study is required for all United States families hoping to adopt. The adoption home study will take about 3-4 months to complete (give or take), and consists of interviews and home visits with a licensed adoption social worker. The most important thing to remember during your home study is not to stress the little things. The social worker isn’t there to judge your home on superficialities like specks of dust or a few dishes in the sink. They are there to determine whether your home is a safe and stable environment for raising a child.

Be Patient

The adoption process takes time – and every adoptive family has a unique experience. Do your best to be patient, and know that you will have the baby that was meant for you when the time is right. With over 14 years of experience and over 800 successful adoptions, we have developed a process that provides adoptive parents with an experienced, supportive, and caring environment as we assist and guide you through every step of the way.
These basic steps will have you headed down the road to adoption. Of course there’s more, and that’s why Angel Adoption will be there to guide you along the way. If you’re ready to get started, feel free to contact us anytime or fill out our free adoption application. If you’ve already begun, rest assured that we are here to support you at any time.
